Codfish and other by-catch information for 4vn halibut fishers

Fishers have been asking about by-catch.

The message is all by-catch must be kept at the lowest possible level at all times.

Remember there is a moratorium in place on cod fish in 4VN and it has to be kept at the lowest possible level at all times. Remember if DFO decides members are fishing/directing during this moratorium for by-catch they can close down our fishery. DFO also would like to remind you that discarding is not permitted.

Also if the Board determines that you are directing for by-catch of any sort  it is in the contract you can loose your right/privileges for the rest of the year.

In our yearly contract the codfish by-catch is 1200 lbs. per opening not per trip:

The penalty for codfish over 1200 pounds round per opening will be $.35 per pound round weight.
