Update on 2nd fall opening for 4vn halibut fishery

9/17/2018

Good Monday Morning Everyone:

Just a quick note regarding the next opening of the 4VN fall fishery.

The 4VN board members have made a decision to hold off the next opening for at least a week.

At that time, the board will re-address the following reasons and make another decision on a date for reopening.

The reasons for this decision are as follows:

The price is expected to be as low as OR lower than $5 per pound for the best of fish. This is supposed to rebound within the next 2 weeks. With the hurricane, there is a stockpile of fish in Boston not moving affecting the sales. Also, the hurricane may still affect the weather here on a local level they have not yet confirmed this but there is discussion around the same. And the halibut are quite far out and are expected and typically move closer inshore further into the month and this will benefit all fishermen in search of their quota.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me and as there are updates I will let everyone know asap.

Until then take care.

Amy
